Reflection on the Book: Night

Night, written by elie wiesel, is a very unique and powerful book. It tells the tale that no other book can tell. It shows how the death and sadness of the holocaust emotionally, physically, and spiritually affected the Jewish people. Although much readers think that something so awful as the Holocaust cant relate to them, the life lessons learned from it can be very helpful and inspiring to everyone.

One thing that someone could learn from this book is to continue to have hope and faith, especially in times of sadness and loss. Faith sounds very religious, but even if you don't believe in God, that doesn't mean you cant have faith. People must have faith and hope that even when things are at its lowest, they have to believe that no matter what, it will get better. This is probably what kept Elie alive through such unbelievably harsh conditions. All the people around him had lost hope, therefore the already wanted to die. Faith and hope is what also keep us humane, because it allows us to see a future and value to life. Most of the prisoners became very inhumane. they only worried about their own survival. They no longer had hope that something good was going to happen and that things were going to get better. This is why their behavior was so primitive. They fought each other to the death just for a mere piece of bread.

Hope is not an easy thing to have, especially when things are at a low. These are times were a lot of things don't go your way, a time were you feel you have the worst luck. But what gets you out it is seeing a clear and bright future ahead of you. This is what kept Elie alive. Throughout events in the book, he continued to believe that there would be an end to this huge debacle. He struggled to keep the people around him positive. This is an example of what humanity needs to strive towards. Once we fail, or once something bad happens, we give up. Humans need to learn to stay positive. There is a saying. this saying is "There will always be a regression to the mean". This means that nothing will be too good or too bad for too long. Things will always tend to get back to normal. And in some cases this is true. This is why humanity must never lose faith nor hope.
