Coney Island Rough Draft

Many people today see life as a time o just have fun and waste time. We see life from a "YOLO"point of view. The poem "A Coney Island Life" by James L. Weils talks about how he used life more to have fun instead to become successful and make your life meaningful.  First of all, he talks about how he wants to take an opportunity or accomplish a goal before he dies. Also, he regrets everything he did because it didn't help him. Through the metaphor of a tourist attraction, Weils talks about how people should work for opportunities that will help you become successful and make your life worthwhile.

The first part of the poem talks about Weils living a Coney Island life, with ups and downs, and having helium hopes. I think he is talking about how he had so much fun, but with that, he was distracted from the opportunities that passed him. An example of this is the quote "seen helium hopes break skyward without me". When he says the quote, I think he is referring to all his hopes and dreams of accomplishing something pass him because he was to distracted with the "fun" he was having. It refers to some people today because many of them waste life on doing stupid and unreasonable things that they call "fun"but in turn, it really hurts them. Another piece of evidence is the quote "now arms filled with dolls, i threw so much for". I think this talks about how he regrets the decisions he made in his life because it left him with nothing that helped him.  It can also be in reference to people today because many people have regrets for their decisions. The first part of the poem implies the message about people who just have fun and don't do anything useful. I shows how it can affect them in the future.

This poem also indicates that he wants to reach certain goal or opportunity or some sort of dream before he dies. In the poem, there is a line, "I take perhaps my last ride on this planet carousel." I think what he is talking about is that he is running out of time, and that if he wants to do something, he has to act now, before it becomes to late. This teaches me to not procrastinate from something as small as homework or as big as dreams. The reason is because you will eventually run out of time, and not have a chance to accomplish what you set out to do. Another piece of evidence for this idea is the line, "how many more times round, I have, to catch that brass ring sun, before the gam is up". like the quote before, he is talking bout how he needs to catch the "brass ring sun" before he dies. This is in reference to his goal. This teaches me that to work for something as soon as i get the chance. The reason is because i may not get another chance, and then, I may regret my decisions for the rest of my life.

Overall, this poem talks about how people shouldn't waste time on superficial things that won't last forever or won't help you. It talks about how life shouldn't be wasted on doing stupid things. I think that if i apply the knowledge i have gained, then I can have a better point of view on my life and successes.
