Hunger Games Reading Check: Ch. 13-21
1. Since all of the Career Tributes supplies and equipment were all gathered in one camp by the cornucopia, katniss and Rue decided that they were gonna take what they needed and destroy the rest. So Rue set up a decoy fire to draw all the Career Tributes away. As Katniss was going to do her part, she sees Fox face avoiding mines. Therefore, Katniss shoot an arrow at a bag of apples and sets off a chain of mines to destroy all of their stuff. They're plan was successful in that matter, but it ended up leading to Rue's Death.
2. After learning that there will be 2 victors, Katniss kind of tries to find Peeta hoping that they can both win. after making her way to a river, she finds a blood trail. After following that blood trail, she finds Peeta injured. She then cares for him and tries to take care of him. I believe that she doesn't really like him, but she likes him as a friend. Therefore, she continues to care for him and act like she loves him so that she can get a sponsor to give them supplies they need and to please the crowd.
3. As Katniss attempts to get the book bag, she encounters Clover. She therefore has to fight her and nearly gets killed doing so. Just as Clove was about to give the killing blow, Thresh, the boy tribute from district 11, pounds Clover's head in and save Katniss. Therefore, She is successful in retrieving the bag. Whats in the bag is medicine that can heal Peeta's wound and therefore save him.
4. Throughout the Hunger Games, it is shown that Katniss has some sort of feeling towards Peeta. The Capitol Believes that this is love, but clearly it is not. Although she does care for Peeta, it is more of a "friend" love. She doesn't loves him more as a friend and as a comrade. But she does care a lot for him. "I'm careful to leave Peeta with water and the medical kit right besides him." (pg. 280) This quote here shows that she does care for him in some way. The Hunger games is a very dark event in which people turn on one another. If Katniss were like any other tribute, she would have took everything she had for herself. Instead, she ensured that he would survive too. “To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed.” This is another quote that shows that Katniss somewhat cares for Peeta. She kind of has a connection to that even though she doesn't love him, she is fond of him. Overall, this shows that Katniss may not like Peeta as a husband or boyfriend, but she is very close to him and they are really good friends.
